November 1, 2026, Lamentations 5:19-22
19 But you, O Lord, reign forever;
your throne endures to all
generations.
20 Why do you forget us forever,
why do you forsake us for
so many days?
21 Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may be restored!
Renew our days as of old—
22 unless you have utterly rejected us,
and you remain exceedingly
angry with us.
Lamentations 5:19-22 concludes the
weeping prophet's plea following the destruction of Jerusalem. It contrasts
God’s eternal sovereignty with humanity's temporal suffering, ending on a raw, vulnerable note as Israel begs the Lord to remember
them, restore their relationship, and rescue them from His enduring anger.
Have you ever experienced a season of
prolonged hardship where it felt like God was distant or "forgotten"
you?
How can you hold onto the foundational
truth of God’s sovereignty (from verse 19) while honestly expressing your
feelings of abandonment to Him?
The people pleaded, "Restore us
to yourself... that we may be restored". In areas where you feel spiritually
disconnected or stagnant, are you actively asking God to do the transforming
work in your heart, or are you trying to earn your way back into fellowship
through your own strength?
