June 3, 2026, Isaiah 40:1-5

40 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
    and cry to her
that her warfare is ended,
    that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lord's hand
    double for all her sins.

A voice cries:
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord;
    make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be lifted up,
    and every mountain and hill be made low;
the uneven ground shall become level,
    and the rough places a plain.
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
    and all flesh shall see it together,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

Isaiah 40:1–5 declares that God initiates comfort, forgiveness, and renewal for His suffering people, calling them to clear away the spiritual and mental obstacles in their hearts to prepare for the grand revelation of His glory.

Hezekiah struggled with the consequences of sin in chapter 39, but chapter 40 opens with total comfort. How easily do you accept God's forgiveness and comfort when you have failed, or do you tend to punish yourself?

The "mountains" in our lives can represent pride, self-reliance, or stubborn habits. What major obstacles are currently standing in your heart that block you from experiencing God's presence?
