January 9, 2025, 1 Kings 16:29-34

29  In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri began to reign over Israel, and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years.  30  And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD, more than all who were before him.  31  And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took for his wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of

the Sidonians, and went and served Baal and worshiped him.  32  He erected an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria.  33  And Ahab made an Asherah. Ahab did more to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.  34  In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its

foundation at the cost of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.

 

Just when we think it can’t get any worse, Ahab son of Omri begins his reign.  The Bible states that he was more wicked than ANY before him.  He and his wife, Jezebel, served and worshipped Baal. Make no mistake that God is not intimidated by such sinfulness. 

How will you lead your family?

Earlier in the week we ask ourselves about how our family’s legacy would be recorded.  Ponder on that thought once again and consider how you can begin today be the change in your family to be a legacy of faith filled Christians.

So often we are willing to help others, but not if it puts us out or causes us work. Help me love unconditionally and act on that love. Joseph spent most of his life with Egyptians, but certainly not in comfort until the last years regarding the famine, but yet he grew to love them to a degree he worked to make their lives better. I pray Father that You help me to love like that. Help me remember to act on the love for others and be Jesus to those around me. In Jesus’ name. Amen! I find this so interesting. Joseph, not an Egyptian, sold into slavery, and imprisoned in Egypt for years because of an Egyptian who lied about him.
