June 5, 2024 – 1 Samuel 16:1-5

Here we see God tell Samuel that his time of mourning for Saul was over.  Samuel was to get up and go forth to Bethlehem for God had decided a new king would come from the house of Jesse.

I love the direct intentionality of God as he shares there is a time for mourning and a time to move forward.  Let us remember that God’s plan will never end with us as it goes beyond us and we do not have to fear for the future.  Are there matters in your life that cause you to be frightened and fearful?  Pray today that you can trust God with the future.  It is already written that God will overcome the world. He will have the final say.  Don’t let the devil steal your hope, cause you to doubt, rob you of your peace and cause worry to keep you in a frozen, doubting state.  Surrender your fears and doubts today and begin experiencing the peace and joy God intends for you.

16 The LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”  2  And Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” And the LORD said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’  3  And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. And you shall anoint for me him whom I declare to you.”  4  Samuel did what the LORD commanded and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, “Do you come peaceably?”  5  And he said, “Peaceably; I have come to

sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” And he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
