May 23, 2024 – 1 Samuel 12:1-5

12 And Samuel said to all Israel, “Behold, I have obeyed your voice in all that you have said to me and have made a king over you. And now, behold, the king walks before you, and I am old and gray; and behold, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day. Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? Testify against me[a] and I will restore it to you.” They said, “You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man's hand.” And he said to them, “The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand.” And they said, “He is witness.”

These verses make me think of how important our reputation is when we represent Jesus.  Others can try to impact us in a negative way, but God is in control.

Why do you think the enemy tries to impact us as believers to do things that would hurt our reputation?

What can you do today to represent Jesus well?

Heavenly Father, everything good I am or do is because of You.  Help me to remember to represent You well.  But Father, I know that even when I mess up, You can use me.  The woman at the well had a horrible reputation but You used her in a mighty way.  I want to be used by You.  I know I have to be willing, and I am.  I also know my willingness isn’t always at full level.  Help me trust in You so I can be ready to do what You have for me to do.  Help me love You more every day.  Protect me from the enemy as he tries to distract me from Your work.

In Jesus’ name.

Amen!
