May 17, 2024 – 1 Samuel 8:19-22

19 But the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said, “No! But there shall be a king over us, 20 that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” 21 And when Samuel had heard all the words of the people, he repeated them in the ears of the Lord22 And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey their voice and make them a king.” Samuel then said to the men of Israel, “Go every man to his city.”

And God said, “Obey their voice and make them a king.”  Do you think that Samuel ever got exasperated with the Israelites? I think of my own children. As I was raising my own children, there were times when they wanted their way and I knew the consequences were not going to be pleasant. If I knew they could suffer the consequences and not be permanently harmed, and that I could act as their safety net, I would let them have their own way. They learned pretty quickly that I truly had their best interest at heart and that was the very reason I was hesitant to let them have their way. The same is true of our heavenly Father. He wants us to be obedient as his plan is the perfect plan. Ask God to show you his plan daily and help you be patient when He tells you to wait. He wants what is best for His children.
