March 4 – Judges 9:22-25
March 4 – Judges 9:22-25
22 Abimelech
ruled over Israel three years. 23 And God sent an
evil spirit between Abimelech and the leaders of Shechem, and the leaders of
Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech, 24 that
the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood
be laid on Abimelech their brother, who killed them, and on the men of Shechem,
who strengthened his hands to kill his brothers. 25 And
the leaders of Shechem put men in ambush against him on the mountaintops, and
they robbed all who passed by them along that way. And it was told to
Abimelech.
This passage begins to
unveil the plan God has for Abimelech and the town of Shechem. God is not
pleased with the slaughter of the brothers of Abimelech. The blood of these
brothers is on Abimelech’s hand.
God holds us accountable
for our deeds and actions. How much simpler would it have been if Abimelech had
sought God’s plan? Do you know of people
who must have their way, regardless of the consequences? Pray for them today
and encourage them to seek God’s will instead of their own desires.
Heavenly Father, although
I haven’t physically torn anyone to shreds, how often have I done that
emotionally, or by my actions toward them?
We all have bad days but there are many times my actions toward someone
could be extremely harmful to them and to my witness. Help my Father see people as You do and treat
them with grace, mercy and extreme kindness, whether they deserve it or not.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
