March 12 – Judges 11:12-17
12 Then
Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites and said, “What do you
have against me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?” 13 And
the king of the Ammonites answered the messengers of Jephthah, “Because
Israel on coming up from Egypt took away my land, from the Arnon to
the Jabbok and to the Jordan; now therefore restore it peaceably.” 14 Jephthah
again sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites 15 and
said to him, “Thus says Jephthah: Israel did not take away the land of
Moab or the land of the Ammonites, 16 but when they
came up from Egypt, Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea
and came to Kadesh. 17 Israel then sent
messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Please let us pass through your
land,’ but the king of Edom would not listen. And they sent also to the
king of Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel remained at Kadesh.
In
these scriptures we see Jephthah sending messengers to the king of the
Ammonites asking why he is wants to fight? Jephthah tries to negotiate and reason with
the king. He explains that past requests
to cross through Kadesh were denied thus leaving the Israelistes to remain in
Kadesh. We’ve all encountered roadblocks
and unexpected occurrences in life forcing us to make decisions that were not
our original plans. *When life throws a
“curve ball” at you, how do you respond?
Who do you turn to? I often try
to resolve matters in my own hands.
Other times when I seek for God’s guidance, I might try to rush him or
lend him a hand. Try to make God your ‘first
responder’ as you pray and wait for discernment in life situations.
Heavenly
Father, help me take the high road when life throws a curve ball at me. Protect me from myself when my thoughts are taking
me down a road that will lead to saying or doing something I shouldn’t say or
do. I can’t control other’s thoughts,
actions or words, but I can remove myself from situations that are
unhealthy. Help me to make wise
decisions on who I spend my time with
and how I react to others. Help those
around me see truth about me and not believe the lies that the enemy puts
before them. Help me come to You first
and rely on You and You alone for discernment.
In
Jesus’ name.
Amen!
