February 5 – Judges 3:1-6
3 Now
these are the nations that the Lord left,
to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the
wars in Canaan. 2 It was only in order that the
generations of the people of Israel might know war, to teach war to those who
had not known it before. 3 These are the
nations: the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the
Sidonians and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as
far as Lebo-hamath. 4 They were for the
testing of Israel, to know whether Israel would obey the commandments of
the Lord, which he commanded
their fathers by the hand of Moses. 5 So the people
of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the
Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 6 And
their daughters they took to themselves for wives, and their own daughters they
gave to their sons, and they served their gods.
Here we go again. Now the
Israelites are inter-marrying with the natives of the land. The gods that were
prevalent in the land became the gods that were worshipped by the Israelites. I
look at our nation and I see greed driving many decisions. I see the love of sports
being the focus of so many people. As believers, are we really setting
ourselves apart from our cultural? Are we in the Word daily, studying and
growing faith? Are we in this world, but not of this world?
Heavenly Father, my
selfish desires take me away from You so often.
Love of entertainment, wanting accolades for myself instead of focusing
on praises for You, love of money and what it can do. All these things can be good and used for
You, but how often do I forget You in the process of my day? How often do I have my focus on me instead of
on You. Help me keep my focus on You and
You alone. You will guide my steps in
the right direction if only I will keep You as my one and only guide. You are THE way, THE truth, and THE light and
THE way to true life.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
