February 2 – Judges 2:1-5

February 2 – Judges 2:1-5

Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” As soon as the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. And they called the name of that place Bochim. And they sacrificed there to the Lord.

Wow! God sent an angel to speak with the nation of Israel. They knew they were disobedient and they wept. How would they deal with the knowledge that there would be difficult times ahead because of their disobedience? This passage of scripture shows me very clearly what God expects of us. Am I willing to live in a manner that is obedient to His word? As a believer, we should have no other option but to live out His word. Think about your life as you head out the door this day. Are you willing to live as an alien in this land so that you will be able to be obedient to God?

Heavenly Father, when I read these verses and think about what they mean, I can’t help but realize that when we believe in You, we will always be aliens in this land because this is not our home.  I know this world is not where I belong because it is so dark and glorifies the enemy, not You.  My home is where You are praised continually.  Where every knee bows and every tongue confesses that You alone are Lord, Creator, Savior, and King!  Sometimes I feel frustrated to realize this is not my home.  I wonder why I have to spend so much time in a place that fights You every minute.  But then I realize the more time I am here, the more opportunity I have to share Your love and Your plan with those who don’t know and need You.  That is my purpose here.  To praise You and share You with others.  Help me remember there is a purpose to my time here.  This alien land can be a harvest.  Help me plant seeds for You, Father, and know that You will bring in the harvest at the right time.  Come, Jesus, come.

In Jesus precious and Holy name.

Amen!
