January 31 - Judges 1:22-26
22 The
house of Joseph also went up against Bethel, and the Lord was with them. 23 And
the house of Joseph scouted out Bethel. (Now the name of the city was formerly
Luz.) 24 And the spies saw a man coming out of the
city, and they said to him, “Please show us the way into the city, and we
will deal kindly with you.” 25 And he showed them
the way into the city. And they struck the city with the edge of the sword, but
they let the man and all his family go. 26 And the
man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city and called its name
Luz. That is its name to this day.
I read these stories in
the Bible and sometimes I wonder if they asked God ahead of time what they were
to do. In these verses it says “And the
Lord was with them…” so I have to think they had asked for God’s wisdom and
guidance as they went scouting in the city.
They found a man coming out of the city to help them so it would see
that man was sent by God. They did spare
that man’s family, but it seems like he was the only one spared.
When have you see an answer
to prayer like the one here where they came across the man to help them coming
out of the city?
Did you ask for guidance
or was your prayer specific asking for God to send a person to help?
Something I hae tried to
make a habit in recent years is to always stop and thank God when I see Him
answering a prayer. I know there are
many blessings He gives me that I don’t even realize right away, but I thank
Him every chance I get.
How often do you thank God
for bringing people into your life to help you?
Do you thank Him daily for
the little blessings that we sometimes have a tendency to overlook?
Heavenly Father, as I go
through each day, realizing how seldom I thank You and how very much You do for
me, I wonder how You put up with it. I
know I have given gifts to people or helped people and been frustrated when
they don’t even say “thank you”, but then I realize I am the same way. How entitled I have become. I know You are capable of anything, and it has
made me less appreciative. I hate
that. Help me see what You do for me
every day. Help me see the little things
as well as the big things. Keep my heart
right with You, Father. Help me stay in
focus with You and not too focused on the creation, to see the Creator.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
