Exodus 32:1-6
When
the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people
gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods
who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out
of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” 2 So Aaron said to them, “Take off
the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your
daughters, and bring them to me.” 3 So
all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought
them to Aaron. 4 And he
received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made
a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who
brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” 5 When
Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation
and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” 6 And they rose up early the next day and
offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat
down to eat and drink and rose up to play.
How quickly the Israelites forgot who their God
was. Their grumbling and lack of faith
in our true God caused them not only to stoop to make the golden calf but also
to build an altar, have a feast and celebrate.
And Aaron was at the center of the plan.
Seems unbelievable, doesn’t it? Yet, how often do we fail to remember God as
our one true God? What in your life
takes priority over God at times? What
do you find yourself putting before God?
Pray today that Holy Spirit will reveal to you any false Gods you may
have and ask God to show the way to make Him your priority.
Heavenly Father,
help me to not be like these who had a short memory of all You had done to not
only get them out of Egypt and away from a life of slavery, but the many
miracles that You did as part of that process.
Help me to remember all You have done for me, and mainly who You are. You are the One True God who created
everything and governs everything. You
are the One I can always depend on and lean on for all my needs. You are the One who hears my very thoughts. You are the One who wrote the book that
guides my life. You are the One who sent
Your Son to die so my sins are erased.
You are the One who has built for me a special place in Your
heavens. You are the One who knows the
very second I will come into Your presence.
You are the One who knows when Jesus will return to get his beloved
ones. You are THE ONE!
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
