Exodus 30:17-21

17 The Lord said to Moses, 18 “You shall also make a basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it, 19 with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet. 20 When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die. 21 They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. It shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.”

Did you grow up with your mom telling you “Cleanliness is next to Godliness’?  We actually took it as gospel but it is not scripture in the Bible.   If it were however, it might describe Exodus 30.  God gives specific instructions to Aaron and his sons regarding the washing of their hands and feet in the basin of bronze and being clean lest they die.  This foreshadows Christ washing the feet of his disciplines.  It’s only through Christ that we too can be made clean and live eternally avoiding death and separation from God.

Do you have areas in your life that are separating you from a closer walk with God?  What does your testimony look like?  Do others recognize you as a Christian?  What steps can you take to draw closer to God and shine the light of Christ?

Heavenly Father, help me be clean before You.  Not only a clean body, but a clean mind, a clean spirit, and a pure intention.  Help me to realize how I represent You every day and not do things that don’t represent You well.  I know I make mistakes every time I open my mouth, and I know I need to be careful of what I say and what I do as it is a direct reflection on  You, but help people see me as a forgiven sinner, not someone who is perfect, just someone who loves the perfect man that sacrificed himself so I could live eternally with the Father.  Help people realize they are also a sinner and can live as a forgiven sinner if they only accept Jesus.  Help me spread the word of Your gospel.

In Jesus’ name.

 Amen!
