Exodus 22:28-31
28 “You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
29 “You shall not delay to offer from the fullness of your harvest and from the outflow of your presses. The firstborn of your sons you shall give to me.
30 You shall do the same with your oxen and with your sheep: seven days it shall be with its mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to me.
31 “You shall be consecrated to me. Therefore you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by beasts in the field; you shall throw it to the dogs.

The study of God’s laws helps us to see both His intentionality and protection. They can, however, seem weighty. And they should as you allow yourself to feel the outrageous crushing weight of God’s love.
Are God’s laws from the Old Testament relevant today?
Do you daily acknowledge that you are a sinner saved by grace and ask forgiveness of your sins?
How can the law lead us closer to Christ?

Heavenly Father, I imagine if I were to read the laws on the books today, they would also seem overwhelming, but I realize they need to be in place because people can’t seem to treat each other in love so we must have parameters set in place for what is acceptable and the consequences for when we step outside that line.
We all sin and miss the mark that You have for us. The world has consequences for when we miss the mark society has set up, as You also have consequences for when we step outside of Your plan for us. That is why You sent Jesus. We can’t help stepping outside Your laws. Well, we can, but no one has except Jesus. I’m so thankful You made provision so we can have a relationship with You. Without Jesus we would all be doomed to eternity without You, and I can’t imagine what that would be like.
Thank You Father for giving us a way out of our own sinful mess that we make for ourselves.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
