Exodus 28:40-43
40 “For Aaron's sons you shall make coats and sashes and caps. You shall make them for glory and beauty. 41 And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. 42 You shall make for them linen undergarments to cover their naked flesh. They shall reach from the hips to the thighs; 43 and they shall be on Aaron and on his sons when they go into the tent of meeting or when they come near the altar to minister in the Holy Place, lest they bear guilt and die. This shall be a statute forever for him and for his offspring after him.
The priests who served in the tabernacle were to be ordained and consecrated. They were to be servants of God. Do you feel you are called to serve God in a specific way?
Again, we see that if they did not dress in a specific way when they came to minister at the tabernacle, especially their undergarments, they would die. Do you think this sounds harsh? Do you think it is more about obedience than the garments?
Why do you think God was working so hard to teach them obedience?
Heavenly Father, I think about how You have worked to show us that all Your rules have a foundation in teaching us to be obedient to You. I know You are trying to protect us, usually from our own poor decisions, but I also know we are people that want things to make sense, and so often from the world’s perspective, things don’t make sense. I know I am to have faith, but I have to admit that I too want things to make sense, but my faith is strong and my love for You is helping that faith grow strong and just believe and obey. Help me to be obedient to You even when things don’t’ make sense. Help me be strong in my faith and grow it stronger every day so I can be a witness to the world of a faithful believer.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
