Exodus 20:7
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

This one verse says so much in so few words. I don’t know many people that haven’t crossed the line with this one. It doesn’t even mean using His name as profanity, but using His name when it isn’t in reverence. Anytime we misuse His name or use it in a lighthearted manner, we take His name in vain. This one is often a heart issue. How reverent and serious are we about who God is and how we represent Him? Sometimes I wish for the days when I was growing up when we stayed in the foyer until we were ready to go in the sanctuary and be serious, quiet, and reverent. But I know God loves us and wants us to enjoy life too, but I think often we just don’t see Him as God. Sometimes I forget who He is and give Him my prayer list and move on with my day, but He is our Creator, our Lord, our Defender, our Comforter, our Healer, our Savior, and yes, our Father. I could take pages and pages to list who He is to us, but I think you get the idea. He is so much to us, and how much time do I give Him where my focus is Him and not just getting through the prayer, or the ss lesson, or the sermon, or finish reading this chapter so I can get my questions for Bible Study done and move on with my day. I have to believe I am not alone in this.
Please pray today and ask God to reveal Himself to you in a new way. Ask Him to help you see His majesty and his glory. I pray you are able to have a new relationship with God once you open yourself up to who He is.

Heavenly Father, my Creator, my Comforter, my Healer of body, soul and spirit, my Lord, my Savior, and yes, my Father, help me sit at Your feet in reverence and take in Your glory and Your power. Help me to see more of You today. I know I can’t handle seeing Your full glory, but I so want to better understand who You are and what I need to do to honor You in a way that represents who You are. You know my heart and You alone can see the extent of my love for You. I do love You Father, but I know I love You only a tiny fragment of how I should love You. Help me see ways I can represent You better. I know as I pray this prayer the enemy is working to trip me up and keep my eyes off of You, but I want to draw closer to You. Please protect me from the enemy who seeks to destroy anything good and anything good is from You. He seeks to destroy You and Your children with every ounce of energy he has, but You are stronger Lord. Help me to put on my armor and be ready to do battle. Protect me Father from distractions that might seem good but keep me from You and what You have for me to do. Guide me, love me and carry me through the storms of life.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
