Exodus 17:1-7

17 All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?” But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?” So Moses cried to the Lord, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.” And the Lord said to Moses, “Pass on before the people, taking with you some of the elders of Israel, and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the Lord by saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

Once again, God tested the Israelites. They arrived at Rephidim and there was no water to drink. They did not call out to God for provision. Instead, they grumbled to Moses and blamed Him. God spoke with Moses and water was provided when Moses followed specific instructions from God. God has had a plan all along to provide us with the living water through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. This living water flows freely for those who choose to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Is there someone you know that is not drinking freely of the living water? Find time today to pray for them and ask that God would put people in their life to help them find the way to Jesus.

Heavenly Father, I love how Debbie put that today.  “Is there someone you know that is not drinking freely of the living water?”  It really made me think that there are people who accepted You as Savior, but they really don’t daily allow You to gift them with Your presence.  You are definitely there, but they aren’t listening or realizing You are there with them.  They are dying of thirst and all they have to do is drink.  The living water is right there and so many think it is to be kept for hard times, not daily use to fill us up.  I remember being that person.  I did that same thing for so long.  I would have gone to heaven, but I wasn’t allowing You to fill me up and use me for Your glory.  How short-sided I was.  Help me Father be a witness to those around me that we don’t have to sip from the living water when life is too hard to go on, but we can’ fill up on the living water and actually drink so much that living water overflows in us to those around us.  May those around me see You, the living water, flowing from me.  Forgive me for those times when I don’t allow You to fill me up much less overflow.  Help me be more aware of my witness and more aware of allowing others to see You in me.

In Jesus’ name.

Amen!
