Heavenly Father, we see a young love developing between two people who had never met, but You had destined to marry. What a sweet love story. I know You had to had given them love for each other, but I also know that many times we treat love as strictly an emotion we feel and we have become so fickle with our emotions that one day we love someone and the next day we don’t “feel” that love anymore. True love is a choice. I know it must grieve You to see the love You created between husband and wife turn into a temporary arrangement. Help us choose to love and show love even when we aren’t feeling loving. I love Doug so, and even in the bad times, have never stopped loving him. I am grateful You brought us together and I pray I am an example of choosing to love even when I don’t feel loving.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
These scriptures certainly reassure us of a love story unfolding. Reread this short passage again before answering these questions.
Verse 63 mentions that Isaac went into the fields to meditate in the early evening. What do you think his meditations included?
Why do you think Rebekah covered herself when she learned it was her husband to be coming to meet them?
The scripture mentions that Isaac was comforted by Rebekah and loved her. What explanation do you have for this love and bond when Rebekah and Isaac had just met?
Genesis 24:62-67
62 Now Isaac had returned from Beer-lahai-roi and was dwelling in the Negeb. 63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there were camels coming. 64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel 65 and said to the servant, “Who is that man, walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said, “It is my master.” So she took her veil and covered herself. 66 And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. 67 Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
