May 2 - Prayer - Thoughts - Verses

May 2, 2023
Heavenly Father,
I remember as a young child looking up on a beautiful spring afternoon following a morning rain and seeing a rainbow and remembering the promise You made to never again destroy the earth by a flood. I know it was true. I knew it was in the Bible and everything that is in Your word is true. I knew it without a doubt because my mom and dad knew it and knew the one who made the promise. They knew You, loved You and taught me to love You. I think about the different covenants and promises You have made in the Bible that I have learned about since then, and I know You have kept each and every promise You made, and continue to amaze me how You continue to keep Your promises and never let us down.
How often do we let You down? How often have I made a promise to You and either forgotten I promised You anything at all, or made some excuse for my disobedience? How often do I forget how important my word is? Every single time I look at a rainbow or look at a cross that represents Your sacrifice You made of Your only Son, it reminds me that You always keep Your word and how much You love me to give Your only Son for me. I must admit sometimes I wonder why You are so loving to one who is so unlovable as me, but as my husband reminds me when I ask him why he loves me, there is nothing I could do to cause him to love me. It is more of love in spite of, than because of. I’m so thankful You gave me a man who loves like that. He is such a witness to me of true love. A that I can’t ever deserve Your love, but You give it in spite of what I deserve. Help me share that love with others so they can see You and feel Your love for themselves.
Thank You Father for the promises You make, the promises You have kept, and the ones that You will keep as we will witness in the future. Thank You for being a Father that always keeps Your word. Thank You for loving me unconditionally. Thank You for the signs You give me to remind me of Your love and who You are. Thank You for the rainbow and thank You most of all for the cross.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
God gave the sign of the rainbow as a sign of His promise to us. What other things can you think of that remind you of promises of God?
How can we have items that represent God without allowing them to be idols? What is the step that moves them from reminders of God and His promises and idols?
Verses for May 2
Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, “Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
